About Us

In 2014, Dr Mufeed Ni’man, our senior partner, had an aspirational vision and predicted that the NHS would require standalone GP Surgeries to collaborate as groups to improve patients’ access to care. He later established South Coast Medical Group with the intention of bringing GP Surgeries together with the focus on patient care and improving access to patient focused services.

In the years since, the group has progressed from our founding surgery with 7000 registered patients to 5 surgeries with over 52,000 registered patients and over 220 staff members. Since 2014, we have seen a steady increase in patients wishing to register with the Surgeries within South Coast Medical Group.

Our innovative services include Physiotherapists; Social Prescribers; Clinical Pharmacists and Paramedics. By working at scale with access to services, we promote health and provide for the needs of our communities. Our aspirational vision is designed to inspire staff and drives constant innovation and our integrational approach.

Our vision is to be the best provider in healthcare, education, and training for our local communities.

Dr Ni’man has an active role with the Dorset Integrated Care Board (ICB), helping to expand and improve patient health and services in NHS Primary Care.

South Coast Medical Group is currently comprised of the following 5 GP surgeries.

Patient Participation Group

We run an active Patient Participation Group (PPG) where patients from across our practices can give their views about our services. This helps us to improve our quality of care and fosters an improved communication between our practices and our patients. You can find out more about our PPG, including how to register, by contacting patientservices.scmg@dorsetgp.nhs.uk.

Named GP

All of our patients are assigned a named GP who has the legal responsibility for coordinating their care. Your named GP will be allocated by the practice when you register. You can still make appointments with any of our doctors or health care professionals, not just your named GP. You have the right to express a preference to be seen by a particular GP. This will be recorded on our system and, where possible, you will be allocated appointments with that clinician.

Education and Training

SCMG participates in the training of doctors pursuing a career in general practice. These doctors are fully qualified and may have several years’ experience in hospital medicine. Whilst they are with us we like them to participate fully in the medical care offered by the practice. We value our training status and the contribution that these doctors make to the practice.

We frequently have trainee doctors and medical students from Imperial College London and Southampton University observing and assisting our doctors. Students will only attend consultations with express permission from the patient.

Feedback

We embrace an open feedback culture and actively encourage feedback from patients, staff and partners. Please send an email to patientservices.scmg@dorsetgp.nhs.uk if you wish to leave us feedback.

GP Earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in South Coast Medical Group during 2021/22 was £63,892 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 4 full time GPs, 17 part time GPs and 8 part time Locums who worked in the practice for more than six months.
